We are an American family business located in the Philippines. Although mainly an English school, we also offer values and ethics training for home and business, job-skills training, and public speaking. In addition, we provide English document editing and transcription overseen and edited by Americans.

So far, we’ve had students from Canada, China, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and Spain! Come to ETHOS and receive American English instruction without the high cost and hassle of going to the USA!

Our name is an acronym and stands for Ethics To Help Others Succeed! Everything we do is designed to help our customers become better people and make a positive contribution in the world around them. (We all know the world could use more of that, right?)

Hi! I am Barry Murrell. Originally from the US state of Texas, my wife, Sharon, and I have lived and worked in Asia for 40 years. We love the people and when we retired from our work, wanted to do something that could help people. This is why we started ETHOS. We are an American family business located in Cebu City, Philippines!

My family and I want to give you an American English experience in which you will have American teachers with different genders, ages, and personalities. You will enjoy being with our family. (Even our grandchildren will help you with your English!) If you like, you can stay in the home of one of our teachers and experience American culture! You will have classmates from different countries! These are things that you won’t find in ANY other school in Cebu! I will do my best to keep you safe and give you the best opportunity to study English, so come study at ETHOS and become part of our family!

Our ESL American “native speakers” handle all classes so that our Asian students can have the benefit of “American teachers” without having to go to the USA! Our teachers are kind and want very much to help our students improve! Philippine English is not the same as American English. It costs us more to bring in American teachers, but if you study with us, you know that the English you are learning is genuine! We will help you go from where you are now and improve as much as possible while you are with us! The only limitation will be how serious you are about learning! We are serious about helping you speak better English!

Our programs are designed for people who have reached the age where they can read and understand our training material, and can successfully accomplish all of the required course assignments. Only students with these capabilities can gain any benefit from participation in our courses. As a general rule, unless we agree to special circumstances, this means that our students should be at least 15 years old to enroll in our programs. We will consider ANY request we receive, but we reserve the right to refuse training based upon the principles laid out above.
